Your ability to communicate effectively impacts every area of your life! Wouldn't it be nice to communicate in ways that make you feel heard and understood and to listen more effectively so that other people feel the same?!
BWCG's Communication Skills Foundational Workshop offers participants one day focused upon understanding their personal and peer professional communication styles. This interactive workshop is a wonderful team building and personal growth opportunity through communication. Participants will complete an online communication tool assessment prior to the class date, which will be used during the class.
• Deepen understanding of personal communication style and impact
• Understand the various forms of communication
• Recognize the strengths and opportunities of each style
• Identify the communication styles of others
Communication Theory
The Communication Tool for the Communication Skills Foundational workshop is based on the well-known research and personality theories of psychologists Carl Jung, William Moulton Marston, and others. Most research has identified two basic dimensions of style, which we refer to as assertiveness and expressiveness. Assertiveness is the effort a person makes to influence or control the thoughts or actions of others. Expressiveness is the effort that a person makes to control his or her emotions and feelings when relating to others. Participants will learn and identify behaviors exhibited by each of the styles in 4 areas of communication (verbal, paraverbal, body language, and personal space), as well as the potential strengths and trouble spots of each style. Action planning questions then help individuals to capitalize on communication style.
